The Thibault Liger-Belair estate is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. Its history is linked to the C. Marey and Comte Liger-Belair estates, founded in 1720 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, which were among the most important in Burgundy. In 1982, Xavier Liger-Belair sold the trading company and died shortly after. That same year, his son Vincent, supported by his mother, took over the family business, renovated the estate and reorganized the sharecropping with three coastal winemakers so that one of his sons could take over the estate when the time came. All the vineyards on the estate have been in the family since the 18th century and the Thibault Liger-Belair era. The 8-hectare vineyard is certified as organic. In 2003, Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs, a grape-buying business, was established. Between the months of June and July, the grapes are harvested by member vintners and are then made into wine and aged. In 2008, parcels in Moulin-à-Vent, a Cru in Beaujolais, were purchased at Domaine des Pierres Roses.
The wine, Nuits-Saint-Georges “Les Belles Croix”, is made from grapes purchased from a 0.70-hectare vineyard plot planted in 1954. After manual harvesting, 40% of the crop is kept whole grape bunches and fermentation lasts 3 weeks with a very gentle extraction. The wine ages for 18 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new.
