Bouchard Père & Fils was founded in Beaune in 1731. With almost three centuries of history, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest wine houses in Burgundy. At the head of an exceptional estate in the Côte d’Or, the ninth generation of the family still perpetuates this unique know-how of the art of producing great Burgundy wines today.

Patiently built over the years, the vineyards of the Bouchard Père & Fils estate today extend over 130 hectares of vineyards. Combining prestigious appellations with exceptional plots of land, the Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard constitutes a unique wine heritage in Burgundy.

The vineyard

This cuvée is a Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru wine obtained from 3.65 hectares of east-facing vineyards on clay-limestone soils.

According to legend, this denomination, much appreciated by Charlemagne, was at the time cultivated exclusively with Pinot Noir. Only at the end of the emperor’s life, the south-facing plots were planted with Chardonnay, with the aim of obtaining a white wine that it didn’t stain his beautiful beard. In 1909, Bouchard Père & Fils purchased 60% of “Le Corton” (6.93 hectares), which has the rare characteristic of being able to be planted with both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Today Bouchard Père & Fils is the third owner of Corton-Charlemagne (51.68 ha).
