Aubert De Villaine is a person known throughout the world as one of the two owners of Domaine de La Romanèe Conti. Bouzeron, a Cote Chalonnaise village nestled between Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay to the north and Rully and Mercurey to the south is home to his family business. Assisted by his grandson Pierre De Benoist, he directs and grows his own grapes.
In Bouzeron, vineyards were planted by monks in the Middle Ages. This small, sunny valley has a rich and long tradition of producing quality wines, hallowed by an exceptional terroir. The vineyards cultivated, are exclusively hilly and sloping. The soil is poor in nutrients and rich in lime. The yields are very low. All this, together with a gentle microclimate favors the full ripening of the clusters.
As with Romanèe Conti, vineyard management has changed from organic (since 1986), to biodynamic.
