It is an elegant mix of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. All the intense craftsmanship that Le Macchiole carries out in its vineyards and in the cellar shines in this wine. Despite being produced in larger quantities than its brothers Paleo Rosso, Messorio and Scrio, it runs out almost as quickly.
Le Macchiole can be defined as the “Boutique of Bolgheri”. Today Bolgheri is among the most famous wine regions in Italy, but this seemed impossible in 1983, the year Le Macchiole was founded. A time when the area was known simply for its proximity to the sea and for the abundant production of fruit and cereals. Yet, two Bolgheresi, Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli, were so fascinated by viticulture and the idea of being able to produce wine that they decided to embark on this adventure anyway, even if many did not consider it a possible way to make a living.
