Barolo DOCG from Francesco Clerico represents the synthesis of the various characteristics offered by each terroir.
The vintage was mainly characterized by two phases: firstly a very hot and dry spring and then an unusual summer of rain and very low temperatures. The storm with major hailstorms in early September is of note, as it heavily affected some areas of the Langhe. This estate was generally fortunate, as hail nets have been in use for some time and they did their job in an exemplary manner.
In general, the transition from the warm spring weather to the cool summer rains led to a serious cooling of the soil, causing a thermal shock and a sharp increase in moisture levels. This phenomenon caused a slowdown in the vines’ growing cycle, resulting in the late harvest of the Nebbiolos that strongly characterized the 2019 vintage. Barolo Classico from Francesco Clerico 2019 expresses great complexity: many delicate hints of spice and flowers enrich its aromatic profile. The palate is massive, with powerful but at the same time not too potent tannins and the finish is characterized by an elegant, lingering sweetness. This is a vintage that undoubtedly falls within the definition of “traditional”, for expression and climatic trend.
