This Soave Classico is an expert blend of Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave, making a fresh and young wine produced by the area’s historic estate, the Pieropan winery. In 1890, Leonildo Pieropan, a doctor from the town of Soave, decided to try his hand at wine production and used the family-owned vineyards. This has been a journey of hard work and passion, leading to Leonildo, the founder’s grandson in the transformation of Pieropan into a modern, technological winery. This cutting-edge structure continues to keep alive the long-standing farming traditions, as they are the foundation of the creation of authentic labels, just like this Soave.
The Calvarino vineyard, purchased in the early 1900s, is located in the heart of the classic Soave area and represents the original family estate for the winery.
The soil structure, formed in the Tertiary Era, is rich in clay and basaltic tuff, giving the wine a pleasant savory and mineral flavor. The name Calvarino derives from “little ordeal” because of the difficulty of working the soil and the winding path used to reach it. The first label goes back to 1971 and represents the most traditional, authentic expression of Soave wine.
It is straw yellow in color with bright gold-green highlights. The nose is a fresh, floral, ample bouquet of elderberry, lemon apple, pear, on a background of hazelnut and almond. In the palate is fresh and elegantly savory, well balanced with an apple finish that’s long and persistent.
