Distillerie de Port-au-Prince in Haiti has now delivered the first Providence in history that has ever been left to age.
The ties between Luca Gargano and Haiti are long-standing, with initial connections going back to the early 1990s, when Luca made his first attempt to import Haitian rums to Italy.
Then, in 2012, the unexpected and extraordinary discovery of Clairin on the island confirmed the great potential of sugar cane and traditional-method agriculture, with no need for chemicals. Haiti’s authentic techniques revealed a real treasure in rum production that was in danger of disappearing.
Meanwhile, Luca always continued to dream of reproducing a discontinuous distillation rum in Haiti, as Barbancourt had done until 1992. The project to realize this dream began as a collaboration between La Maison & Velier and the Berling Barbancourt-Linge family, the direct descendants of the celebrated Barbancourt rum dynasty.
The Providence brand is the result of this partnership. A label destined to mark the great return of rum in discontinuous distillation to Haiti’s capital city.
