The E. Guigal winery was founded in 1946 in Ampuis, a village located in the AOC Côte-Rôtie, by Etienne Guigal. After working at the Vidal-Fleury winery, he decided to create his own family estate.

In 1961, Etienne was succeeded by his son Marcel, who was joined in the management of the company in 1973 by his wife Bernadette and, later, by their son Philippe, who represents the third generation, and his wife Eva.

Generation after generation, the Guigal family has expanded the company’s properties: in 1984, they acquired the historic Vidal-Fleury winery, and later, in 1995, the Château d’Ampuis, whose long history is directly linked to the Côte-Rôtie appellation.

The Château d’Ampuis has become the headquarters of both the E. Guigal maison and the company’s private cooperage, created in 2003. The choice of having its own cooperage is a sign of the great research and attention that the company pays to every component involved in the production of its iconic wines.
The cellars, on the other hand, remain in the historic headquarters of E. Guigal, located in the village of Ampuis. Today, E. Guigal owns about 60 hectares of vineyards that are managed using the integrated pest management method. The great care taken in the management of the vineyards allows E. Guigal to produce wines renowned for their elegance.
