A typical Speyside single malt with a medium body, but floral and delicately fruity. This malt has had a brief 14-month finish in first-fill casks from a traditional Spanish bodega – casks that were used to age Oloroso sherry for 60 years. Dailuaine is a lively whisky, full of citrus and fruity notes on the nose. The sherry-aging does not necessarily bring a vinous character, but amplifies the notes of orange, pear and apple to the fullest. The citrusy, slightly tart touch is accompanied on the palate by a generous dose of raisins and chestnut honey, resulting in an excellent balance between dryness and a sweeter, creamier side. Again it is only moderately vinous, but soon veers decisively toward toasted, tannic notes. Its peppery, astringent intensity gets stronger and stronger on the finish.
