The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet appellation was created in 1937, the name “criots” comes from the French and means “stone”, which is abundant in the soil. This vineyard of 1.57 hectares is one of the smallest appellations in France, it has an altitude of about 240 meters, a little lower than its neighbors Grands Crus Chevalier-Montrachet and Montrachet, it is the only one of the 4 Grands Crus its brothers, which is located entirely in the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. Produced exclusively from Chardonnay, this vineyard gets an eastern extension that guarantees maximum ripeness of the grapes. The soil is made of gravel and is relatively well drained. It is based on Bathonian limestone with mixed clay outcrops. The wine from Louis Latour ages 8/10 months in new oak barrels, so as to achieve the ideal balance.
